The chess engine for Midnight Chess was derived from the chess engine of GNU Chess, a free software product. GNU Chess is free software, not in price, but in that it users are free to get the source code for it. Since Midnight Chess uses some of the source code from GNU Chess, Midnight Chess is also a free software product. As a user of Midnight Chess, you too may request the source code for Midnight Chess.
